Primary Engineer STEM Event

Lintott’s team of 10 STEM ambassadors reflect the Company’s passion to engender the next generation of budding engineers & technicians. On 6th December, Lintott’s Principal Engineer, Jason Hart, participated in the first part of an event ran by Primary Engineer, held at Hethel Innovation. Primary Engineer seeks to bring engineering & engineers into primary classrooms & curricula. This day-long event involved working with teachers in two projects: The first was to transform a shoe box into a basic cart & to test it climbing a slope. The second was to build a battery-powered cart, which also had to climb a ramp.

Next year, Jason will join teachers in helping to deliver the thought-inspiring project to tomorrows aspiring engineering talent.

Best in Class Employee Recognition

It’s a fact that exceptional employees want to work for a great organisation. Lintott is committed to achieving this by developing sustainable business opportunities & most fundamentally, via celebrating achievement & forging an ever-developing colleague package which continually enhance the overall employee experience. One small but integral part of this is the Company’s colleague recognition scheme. At regular intervals throughout each year, this rewards those team members who have gone “above & beyond”. Bolstering this & for the first time, Lintott has expanded the programme with an “Outstanding Contribution of the Year” award.

This years’ winners were Glen Ireland (shown below, left) & Carl Carpenter (right). Lintott’s Director of Digital Delivery, Andrew Pilkington (shown centre) hosted a special presentation & outlined to team members, why Glen & Carl were worthy winners & quite literally “Best in Class”. Congratulations Glen & Carl!

Britain’s manufacturing heroes named in Liverpool

During the Digital Manufacturing Week held in Liverpool (14th to 16th November 2018), Lintott’s Chief Operating Officer, Jamie Thums, was recognised in The Manufacturer Top 100 (2018). The scheme is run by The Manufacturer magazine, in partnership with Cranfield University, one of the country’s top centres of business education. Now in its fifth year, The Manufacturer Top 100 project, publicly recognises the most dynamic leaders and innovators in manufacturing. Its goal is to help dispel popularly-held myths that vibrant manufacturing in the UK is a thing of the past! Awardees are drawn from every walk of UK industry, from top floor to shop floor. From Sanjeev Gupta, who is singlehandedly transforming the British steel industry, to Amy Druce, Production Team Leader at BMW MINI Plant Oxford. They are selected from hundreds of nominations for the examples they set to young people aspiring to a career in industry; 100 unique and uplifting stories of struggle, grit, determination and success against all the odds, personal tales of individuals helping to change popular perceptions of careers in manufacturing and draw young people into the sector.

Nick Peters, Editorial Director of The Manufacturer and of The Manufacturer Top 100 report commented during the formal drinks reception, “The individual stories in the report published today (available from www.themanufacturer.com) are a compelling reminder of how strong and vibrant UK manufacturing really is. We need to keep saying that, because as a nation we seem to harbour the notion that no one in the UK makes things anymore, and young people are discouraged from considering careers in manufacturing. The truth is we do make things – we are the world’s 9th largest manufacturing nation – and careers are very well paid. But there are too few skilled young people coming through the system. It is on behalf of that new generation that we do this. We want to break down the decades-old prejudice against manufacturing. We want parents to get excited about recommending a career in manufacturing to their offspring, not see it (so erroneously) as an occupation of last resort. We must not let the prejudices of yesterday poison the opportunities of tomorrow.”

Flag Raising & Launch of “Industry Accelerator” Academy

On 28th September 2018, the staff & directors of Lintott Control Systems Limited were honoured to receive a visit from the Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk, Mr Richard Jewson, J.P. & other distinguished guests. The visit formally bestowed on Lintott its 2018 Queen’s Award for Enterprise (Innovation). The occasion was also marked by the official launch of the “Lintott Industry Accelerator” training academy by Mr Chris Rea OBE, Managing Director & Founder of world-class engineering & manufacturing firm, AES Engineering Limited.

During the official ceremony attended by Lintott’s workforce & over 30 guests, Lintott Managing Director, David Owen expressed the Company’s gratitude to the Lord Lieutenant & Mr Rea for their presentations.  In particular, Mr Owen cited how he & fellow Director, Jamie Thums, had spent 20 years working in AES Engineering & had been personally mentored by Mr Rea; an experience which both prized highly.  With such a commitment to people development & the pursuit of organisational excellence, it was fitting for Mr Rea to formally open the Accelerator.  This is home to a suite of cutting-edge 3D-design stations & equipment (such as 3D printing).  Academic partners will occupy the facility each week.  Crucially, this enables students to directly experience one of the region’s best-of-class workspaces, serving to enhance their learning experience.  Lintott is delighted to provide the space on a ‘cost-neutral’ basis as well as access to its technical systems & personnel (including its eight-strong STEM-Ambassador team).  Hardware has been provided by Norfolk County Council & Hethel Innovation, with Autodesk providing the design software.  Process automation equipment has also been supplied by Lintott’s supply chain.  Academic partners include East Coast College; the College of West Anglia; City College Norwich; West Suffolk College; & the University of East Anglia.

Regional Winner: 2018 Chamber Business Awards

One of the cornerstones of Lintott’s Business Development Strategy is the continuous development of industry-defining digital tools. Whilst the Company recognises the internal & external ‘game-changing’ benefits of its strategy, comprehensive stakeholder use & satisfaction, as well as benchmarking are essential to ultimately prove the overall benefit.

Adding to the 2018 Queen’s Awards for Enterprise: Innovation win, is the regional award for “Best Use of Technology” – 2018 Chamber Business Awards. Andrew Pilkington (Director of Digital Delivery) commented; “We’re overjoyed to win a second accolade within the same year for our i-CatalystÂź Digital Development Suite. With more digital developments in the pipeline, we’re seeking to enhance our ability & opportunities to outperform.”
