Role Overview:

An exciting opportunity has come up for an Electrical Design Engineer to join Galliford Try’s Lintott Control Systems team in the Environment division to deliver circa £10m of projects under multiple Frameworks and Non Water Framework clients per annum covering the United Kingdom.

Reporting to the Technical Director, the role of the Electrical Design Engineer is primarily to:

  • To develop and successfully implement cost effective controls solutions for projects which meet the customer’s needs whilst meeting all relevant legislation and staying within budget.
  • To keep abreast of ever-changing technologies and implement proven technology which offer savings to the business.

Task and Responsibilities:

The key objectives of the appointment are to:

  • Be responsible for the detailed design, specification, implementation, FAT testing of the control solution.
  • Support the Sales Dept in the development of robust, cost-effective controls solutions.
  • Pro-actively Value Engineer the solution to identify alternative materials, scope change opportunities whilst meeting performance, quality and compliance with Client/statutory standards, codes of practice and requirements.
  • To attend design reviews and submit designs for approval.
  • To be on site and be responsible for successful site commissioning (Hardware) and SAT testing (Hardware) of the control solution.
  • Working within agreed Lintott Control Systems procedures and formats.
  • To liaise with all interested departments on receipt of order and attend hand over meetings, as necessary.
  • To maintain a close working relationship with all other departments to establish positive feedback on all contracts to ensure technical patterns are used for future reference.
  • Assist with internal process development and identifying and removing waste / non-value-added activities. Help to maintain and develop procedures and systems to ensure the maintenance of manual and electronic filing systems.
  • To assist where necessary in the event of holidays and sickness within the Engineering Team.
  • Any other duties agreed from time-to-time with management.

Experience and Qualifications:

Essential Experience:

  • Relevant experience in electrical design (hardware) relating to either/both MCC (DOL, ASD, Soft Start & VSD design), Switchgear, Control Panel and LV Distribution / Electrical Installations.
  • Competence in working in a Systems Integration Environment, closely working with Software Engineers to develop Functional Design specifications (FDS).
  • Specification, design, installation, and commissioning of equipment with internal and/or external resource.
  • Knowledge of BS EN 61439, BS EN 60204.
  • Qualified to the 18th Edition to BS 7671 wiring regulations.
  • Experienced in producing Complex Electrical Schematics, General Arrangement Drawings and BOM.
  • Experience in using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Experience working as part of a team.
  • Experience working and interfacing directly with customers.
  • Excellent IT skills, including, but not limited to, Word Processing, Spreadsheets & Databases.
  • Technical Report writing ability.

Desirable Experience:

 Experience within the Water & Wastewater Sector.

  • Experience in Industrial Automation.
  • Knowledge of Profibus, Profinet and Ethernet Topologies.
  • Demonstrable track record of the management of contracts, client and/or contractor disputes, contractors, project team, consultants, and other external resources.
  • Demonstrable track record in the successful delivery of cost-effective control solutions in some/all the following industries: Utility industries or either Food, FMCG, Automotive, Materials Handling.
  • Knowledge of CDM, HSAW, PUWER, DSEAR, CE/UKCA marking, Machine & Functional Safety.
  • Commercial awareness.

Essential Attainments:

  • HNC/ONC in Electrical/Systems/Software engineering plus 5 to 10 years’ experience in electrical installation or maintenance in a relevant industry such as Utility industries or either Food, FMCG, Automotive, Materials Handling.

Or

  • Degree qualification in Electrical Systems Engineering Discipline plus 3 years post graduate experience in Utility industries or either Food, FMCG, Automotive, Materials Handling.

Desirable Attainments:

  • Qualifications / training in CAD system packages.
  • Professional Registration with the IET (Institute of Engineering & Technology) to CEng or Ieng level.
