Celebrating kindness!

Nearly half of adults believe that, in their lifetime, they have had a diagnosable mental health problem, yet only a third have received a diagnosis.  Lintott is committed to doing everything it can to develop its infrastructure & culture to provide the best level of support it can for any colleague who experiences any mental health issues.  During this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week (18-24 May 2020) the theme is kindness.  The World over, kindness is prevailing in such unprecedented & uncertain circumstances.  Kindness is said to strengthen relationships, develop communities & deepen solidarity (source: https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/).

During the week, Lintott has a range of activities to further encourage acts of kindness & to remind all colleagues as to the importance of mental wellbeing.  For more information please contact the Business Assurance Team (via businessassurance@lintottcs.co.uk) or visit: https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/campaigns/mental-health-awareness-week

Asset Life Extended!

Lintott offers an (on-site) upgrade & refurbishment service for its water & wastewater treatment systems, which significantly extends the lifespan of the associated asset(s). This is possible due to Lintott’s modular design concept, integrated CAD modelling, & the use of high-quality ‘fit-for-purpose’ materials & components. Client benefits include: reduced capital expenditure; process improvements associated with the latest methodologies & technologies; & enhanced environmental credentials.

Most recently, Lintott updated an existing orthophosphoric acid dosing solution installed at Anglian Water’s Ardleigh Reservoir.  This allowed the client to extend the asset life of the existing storage tank & civils bund.  This undertaking is in addition to recent works to 5 upgrade orthophosphoric acid dosing systems installed at various Thames Water locations (installed 20 years ago).  Specifically, this included replacing dilution tanks with direct dosing into the carrier water stream, & updating the control & dosing systems to meet current asset standards.

More than a light bulb moment

Following a phased implementation which commenced 12 months ago, Lintott’s Norwich facility has been undergoing an LED lighting upgrade.

Newly installed lighting, which extends to Production areas use some 50% less electricity; thus resulting in a significant reduction in energy consumed & associated costs. Lintott continually monitors CO2 output, & aligned with both its Environmental & Carbon policies, has an evolving programme of initiatives to reduce environmental impacts.

The Value of a One-Stop-Shop

Lintott is currently engaged by Scottish Water’s Delivery Partner, ESD, to undertake the design, build, installation & commissioning of a large scheme as part of Scottish Water’s current upgrade to its Whitehillocks WTW (situated near to Auchronie, Angus).  The total order value equates to ÂŁ2.45M & encompasses several of Lintott’s products & inhouse capabilities (namely Electrical Control Systems, Systems Integration & Chemical Dosing Systems). This personifies the adage & value of a ‘one-stop-shop’; especially for a complex solution.  Added to this, client benefits associated with factory built products (such as modular design & reduced construction works & time).

Each factory built assembly has been fully 3D-modelled, which extends to: Bulk Storage Tanks; Dosing Plant; Remote Fill-points & Panels; Dosing Lines; ‘Point-of-Application’ Catch-Pots; Safety Showers; & Access Platforms. The Systems Integration content includes: Migration Strategy from old system to new (including the dual redundancy of the two systems); Pre & post Harmonic Surveys; Profibus Communications Testing; End-to-End Testing; Site-Shutdown Uninterruptible Power Supply; Network Design; & Process Software.  The Control System content encompasses: Mains Switchboard; Backwash MCC; Service Water Booster Local Control Panel; Air Scour Blowers System Motor Control Centre; Sludge Treatment Instrumental Control & Automation Section; Orthophosphoric Acid Local Control Panel; & Hypochlorite Local Control Panel.

Introducing Lintott’s Professional Development Zone!

IET Enterprise partner, Lintott Control Systems actively promotes employee development & has a dedicated scheme to fund colleague’s professional development & attainments. Situated in the Company’s Faraday Training & Innovation Suite, the Company’s new “Professional Development Zone” celebrates colleagues & their achievements. With further content to follow, the wall exhibits colleagues achievements from organisations such IET, BQF, CIPD, NEBOSH, IOSH & more.

Employee Satisfaction Matters

At the beginning of March, Lintott held its biennial anonymous employee satisfaction.  This seeks to gauge the thoughts & opinions of colleagues regarding key aspects of working at the Company.  This in turn helps to the Company to shape its people-based plans & strategy (the HRM model of which pictured below).  The full results will be reviewed shortly by Lintott’s colleague-based Steering Group, but in the meantime, the Company is delighted to report an overall positivity rating of 86% (versus a target of 80%).  Many thanks to all Lintott colleagues

The Norfolk Computing Hub

Lintott Control Systems is delighted to have a new partnership with The Norfolk Computing Hub, based at Neatherd High School in Dereham.

The Norfolk Computing Hub is one of the 40 new Department for Education appointed National Centres for Computing Education. The Hubs have been tasked with promoting computing in schools and the wider community to tackle the forecasted employment gap in this industry sector. Unless more schools broaden their offer of computer science including at GCSE and A level, there are estimated to be thousands of unfilled posts weakening the UK’s presence in this field.

A major part of the Hub network’s operations is to up skill teachers to become specialists in computer science to provide the required 8000 teachers to deliver the subject at a secondary education level. Work has started on training teachers through a comprehensive program of continuous professional development which consists of face-to-face and online courses. The face-to-face courses will train 100’s of both primary and secondary teachers in the county, initially over the next 3 years, to improve the provision of the subject. During the current period of government measures to deal with coronavirus, training is continuing online.

Lintott is making its Industry Accelerator Training Academy available for the Norfolk Computing Hub to run its face-to-face courses on a cost neutral basis.  The Academy includes the latest Computer Aided Design Workstations, as well as other Industrial equipment and apparatus.  Other than a token fee to cover running costs, Lintott will be donating the fee to the Hub, which will be used to subsequently enhance the work it is undertaking across the county. Adam Gibson, the Norfolk Hub Lead, praised the generosity of Lintott and explained that thanks to the company’s contribution, many more teachers and pupils will benefit from the money being used to purchase special purpose hardware to be used in schools.

Adam commented; “Physical computing devices can bring the subject to life and help to engage young people from an early age into computing. It is now possible to be able to buy class sets of devices that will be available for loan by primary schools and that our trainers can work with teachers to strengthen the delivery of the subject to pupils of all ages.”

Jamie Thums, Lintott Chief Operating Officer & Chair of the New Anglia Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering sector Group [“NAAME”] commented; “Lintott is delighted to support the Norfolk Computing Hub in its endeavour to strengthen computing education across the region. As a digitally integrated process solutions business, and like a great many companies across Norfolk, the backbone of our business is computing and digitisation. Therefore, we support the Norfolk Computing Hub in supporting teachers from non-specialist backgrounds who wish to improve their knowledge of computer science and teach it at GCSE level. This in turn, can only help fuel a larger pool of new talent, consisting of both males and females, eager to make a difference in a computing & digitally-related field.”

Donated fees could run into several thousands of pounds over the initial three years of the Hub’s contract which will have a significant impact on young people in the county.

Barnabee Meadow: Creativity at Work!

Last year, Lintott colleagues began work on an environmental & wildlife project; they aptly titled “Barnabee Meadow” (reflecting Norfolk’s name for a ladybird, known as a “ Bishy Barnabee”).  To date, this includes the planting of shrubs, grasses & alpines, a grassland, bug factory, an assortment of bird boxes, pond area, a fenced-off walkway, & an outside seating area).  As well as being a sanctuary which seeks to promote local wildlife, Barnabee Meadow provides a rest area for both colleagues & visitors.

Whilst never affecting customer deliveries & crucially, observing strict social distancing, colleagues have continued to develop the area, most recently creating a raised waterfall & additional planting – with more to follow!  This is in readiness for an official launch sometime in the near future (watch this space!)  The Company is delighted to share the photo’s below by way of a reminder: Despite the current crisis, creativity & optimism flourish.

Pioneering Remote Customer Witness Testing

Given the process critical & integrated nature of Lintott’s factory-built products, most clients require a comprehensive ‘witness test’.  This takes place in the factory environment & is attended by at least one client technical representative.  The test provides the client with confidence regarding how the equipment will operate when installed (usually alongside other process plant).

Since 2015, Lintott has been developing its end-to-end digital ecosystem, known as i-Catalyst¼.  This comprises proprietary hardware & software systems with a raft of internally-developed ‘cutting-edge’ applications.  In addition to ground-breaking product design software (which can reduce ‘tens of days’ to just a few hours) i-Catalyst¼ facilitates remote witness testing (which is often referred to as a “Customer Factory Acceptance Test”).  In response to the coronavirus pandemic, a number of clients have put such capability to the test in the last week, with success results!  Importantly, this negated the need to travel & attend the factory.
